How We Delivered a Reefer Container to Doha When Shipping Routes Were Disrupted
Every shipment has a story. Some are simple, and some test your patience, planning, and problem-solving skills.
This is the story of one of the most challenging shipments handled by Moggies International.
Our customer in Kolhapur supplies products to their customer in Doha, Qatar. A few months ago, their customer informed them that stock was running low and fresh supplies were urgently needed.
Normally, shipping the cargo to Doha would not have been difficult. However, due to the conflict in the Middle East and uncertainty around the Strait of Hormuz, many shipping lines stopped accepting reefer containers for Doha.
Suddenly, a routine shipment became a major challenge.
For almost a month, our team searched for a solution. We spoke with shipping lines, freight forwarders, customs agents, and logistics partners. Every option seemed to lead to a dead end.
But giving up was never an option.
Working closely with our customer, we found an alternative route through Oman.
The new route looked like this:
Kolhapur (MH) → JNPT (India) → Sohar Port (Oman) → Saudi Arabia→ Doha (Qatar)
The container would travel by sea from JNPT to Sohar Port and then continue by road from Sohar to Doha.
Finding the route was only the beginning.
Since the shipment would pass through three countries, we had to coordinate with multiple agents and ensure all documents were prepared correctly and submitted on time.
The shipment involved:
- Pickup from Kolhapur
- Export from JNPT
- Transit handling at Sohar Port
- Road transportation from Oman to Qatar via Saudi Arabia
- Final delivery in Doha
Everything was moving according to plan until we faced another challenge.
The container was held at Sohar Port for around 4–5 days due to documentation and operational issues.
For most cargo, a delay is frustrating.
For a reefer container carrying perishable goods, it can be worrying.
Our biggest concern was the product inside the container. We continuously monitored the shipment and worked with all parties involved to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
Thankfully, the reefer container remained under proper temperature control throughout the delay.
After several weeks of coordination, follow-ups, and problem-solving, the container finally continued its journey to Doha.
And the best part?
The shipment was delivered successfully.
The customer’s stock requirement was met, and the cargo arrived safely despite the challenges.
The total journey was:
Kolhapur → JNPT → Sohar Port→ Saudi Arabia→ Doha
The transit time was close to one month, but the shipment reached its destination and helped our customer avoid a stock-out situation.
This experience reminded us that logistics is not just about moving goods.
It is about finding solutions when normal routes are unavailable.
It is about managing documentation, coordinating multiple partners, and staying committed until the shipment reaches its destination.
